370. Exercising in virtual reality might be better for your health

If you were lucky enough to get a virtual reality system for Christmas, understand that you might use it for more than fun and games. Several studies published in recent years suggest that virtual reality workouts might have benefits greater than even traditional exercise. Virtual reality involves wearing a headset that generates three-dimensional environments that you can explore and interact with. You become part of this virtual world, manipulating objects within it. For example, in VR, you could feel like you’re climbing a mountain while standing in your living room. Studies have shown that exercise in virtual reality can help you work out longer, reduce pain while you exercise, reduce your desire to eat after your workout, increase heart rate and provide both mental and physical workouts. While I still believe traditional exercise outdoors or at gyms is invaluable, VR workouts could provide a healthy alternative a few days a week.
