Kobe Bryant is one of the best basketball players of all time. He won five NBA Championships with the Los Angeles Lakers, and he was an 18-time All-Star. He also won two Olympic gold medals.

One quality that helped Kobe reach those levels teaches us an important lesson about learning that we can apply to every aspect of our lives.

Kobe Bryant sought to learn from other people to help his own game

“I asked a ton of questions.” This is a section header in Bryant’s book, The Mamba Mentality. Throughout his career, whenever Kobe met a Hall-of-Fame player, a former coach or anyone else who had been successful in basketball, he asked that person questions. He asked how they did it. He asked what they would do differently. He asked for advice.

Sometimes the person who he asked the question would laugh him off, but he didn’t mind risking embarrassment. To Kobe Bryant, it was better to risk embarrassment but potentially gain insight that could help him win championships than to never ask and also never win a title.
