A new survey of parents and kids conducted by the University of Michigan shows rising concerns that school will not return to normal this year. This data comes on top of frustrations with school last year. More than half of the parents rated the 2020-2021 academic school year as worse than the previous year in terms of academic performance, connections with teachers, and impact on relationships with other students. And while 62 percent of parents surveyed said they would feel safer with higher school vaccination rates, one in four say their children are worried about having to do virtual school again, which is becoming a real possibility in much of the country.
