A recent statement put out by the CDC suggests that the risk of contracting COVID-19 from touching a contaminated surface is extremely low. The organization states that in public spaces and community settings, studies show the risk of transmission of this coronavirus is far lower than from droplet or airborne transmission. And cleaning surfaces with soap or disinfecting them with disinfectants that kill viruses will reduce the risk even more, even secondary COVID-19 spread between an infected person and other people within households.
