We’ve been hearing for months how vitamin D might be protective for COVID-19, but it provides a number of other health benefits. A new study in The Journal of Nutrition shows that vitamin D helps newborn babies as well. Researchers from Seattle Children’s Research Institute say mothers with higher vitamin D levels during pregnancy tend to have children with greater IQ scores. Vitamin D deficiency is common among pregnant women, especially Black women. Since most people do not consume enough of the vitamin in their diet, it might be important to talk to your doctor about adding vitamin D through sun exposure or supplements.
