Both parents and children have been greatly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In a new study published in the journal Pediatrics, researchers at Vanderbilt found that over one-quarter of parents noted worsening mental health for themselves since March. Roughly 1 in 7 reported worsening behavioral health for their children. Adding to those problems, the researchers found a 3 percent drop in employer-sponsored health insurance, likely due to unemployment rises caused by the pandemic. That number might not sound significant. but it represents about two-and-a-half million children.
