WHO study suggests remdesivir offers little benefit to COVID-19 patients
Dr. David Geier is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist in Charleston, South Carolina and Charlotte, North Carolina. He helps athletes and active people feel and perform their best, regardless of age, injuries and medical history. He has been featured in major media publications and shows over 2,500 times throughout his career.
Findings from the World Health Organization’s SOLIDARITY trial found that remdesivir, which was recently administered to President Trump, does not reduce COVID-19 mortality or speed recovery. In fact, the researchers found that no anti-viral treatments, including hydroxychloroquine, reduced mortality, use of ventilation, or duration of hospitalization.
These findings stand in direct contrast to other studies which found that treatment with remdesivir did result in clinical improvements. It’s important to recognize that remdesivir is the only antiviral treatment that is FDA approved for treatment of COVID-19.
