Young females basketball gameThe two basketball-related injuries that traditionally receive the most attention are ankle sprains and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) ruptures. Ankle sprains, especially lateral ankle sprains, are the most common diagnosed injury in both male and female basketball players, accounting for approximately 25% of all injuries. It is estimated that up to 16% of female basketball players may incur an ACL injury throughout their playing careers, rates that are typically 2 to 4 times greater than male basketball athletes.
